For more than 20 years, Ruben has been committed to ensuring customer satisfaction and developing professional leaders at Service West. Ruben first joined the company in 1997 as an installer and has since grown in his career, now serving as vice president of operations, Northern California. In this role, Ruben oversees operations, fieldwork and project performance, and also builds and maintains existing client relationships.
Why did you join Service West?
During the time of the dot com bust, my degree in information technology wasn’t useful. Because I had to pivot careers, I wanted to find a place where I would have the opportunity to explore. I joined the company as an installer after being referred by a family friend. I knew I wanted to learn and pursue more, so I was grateful for the opportunity to venture off and try different paths within the company. By wearing many hats, I now have a wide and deep understanding of the company, which allows me to be effective in my role.
What’s the best part about working at Service West?
The supportive team environment. You are never in it by yourself; we’re in this together. Everybody has a say and anyone can contribute. My voice will be heard, even if it doesn’t necessarily go my way. I can lean on my team and they can lean on me because we are all invested in the work that we’re doing. When everyone lines up in the same formation, there’s nothing that we can’t accomplish together.
What makes you proud to work for a company like Service West?
Service West is the leader in the industry – we set the standard of what a successful team looks like. You have people like our CEO, Mark, who is truly invested and heavily involved with the company. He is always the first one at work in the morning; if Mark can do it and he’s the owner, so can we. It’s motivating to work with people with that kind of commitment.
